Watson can't handle the freedom

As Watson gets older, we are starting to give him more freedom, if he can handle it.

Last week we decided we would start by letting him out of his crate while we are at work. He and Mylie are still confined to their "room" in the basement, but at least this way he would be allowed to roam free and look out the window and take a nap on the futon and wrestle with Mylie.

The first day (Monday)  he was wonderful! We were so proud, so we tried again Tuesday.

On Tuesday, we came home to see he had pulled the entire futon mattress off the frame, pulled a rug from one side of the room to the other, and pulled his blankets out of the crate. We figured that might be a one time deal and he didn't do any actual damage, so we let it go.

On Wednesday, they had puppy daycare, and later that night we put him downstairs again while we ran out for ice cream with my brother and Ericka. We were gone about 1 hour and came back to see Watson had eaten a corner of the carpet and also ripped the futon cover off the end f the futon and shredded it.

t at least now he can get up and lay on the futon or look out the window.

You might ask why we know it was Watson, and not also Mylie....Whenever they make a mess or do something naughty I say "Hey! Whoooooo did this???" and usually, since they are partners in crime, they both drop to the ground and put their heads down. I say "come here!" and they both slowly army crawl over to the place where they were naughty. Watson puts his face down (and sometimes his paws over his eyes- soo cute!) and Mylie flips over on her back.

Well this week when it was 100% Watson, I said "Whooooo did this!?" and Mylie ran to the other side of the basement and hid in Watson's kennel while Watson did the typical guilty dog routine.

I wonder if Watson would have been so naughty had he known he was auditioning for his freedom. Oh well, Maybe we'll try again next week.
